Progression of Skills

Monster Phonics is the SSP that we follow at Ringmer Primary and Nursery School. These Phonics Progression documents offer a clear roadmap of the phonemes covered each week and term. To make learning engaging and memorable, we map the 44 phonemes across 10 unique Monster Categories. This approach helps children master Grapheme-Phoneme Correspondences (GPCs) and "tricky words" through a consistent, cumulative journey from Nursery to Year 2.

We believe in responsive teaching. While these documents provide a structured framework, our teachers may adapt the pace throughout the year to:

• Meet the specific needs of every child.

• Utilise revision weeks to target and close attainment gaps.

• Ensure mastery before moving on to new concepts.
