Meet the Governors

Anne Franklin

Chair of Governors

Local Authority Governor

Maths Lead Governor

Curriculum Lead Governor

I was appointed Local Authority Governor in 2014 and have been Chair since 2016. My association with Ringmer Primary and Nursery School goes back some thirty plus years when my daughter and son both attended the school and I was Chair of the PTA.

I was delighted to be asked to join the Governing Body when I retired from Headship of a large primary school in Crowborough. My experience in the education world enables me to see the ‘big picture’ from many viewpoints.

Now that I have fully retired I enjoy spending my time with my four grandchildren, bellringing, walking and playing tennis and bowls - I just have to make sure I plan my holidays around Governor meetings!

Danny Mizon

Vice Chair of Governors

Co-opted Governor

Danny is an ex police officer who worked on the Marine Policing Unit in London.

He was the Safeguarding Link Governor from 2016 - 2023 and has also satin the same post at Kings Academy Ringmer.

He is a father to two boys who attended Ringmer Primary and Nursery School and now attend Kings Academy Ringmer. He is the Club Welfare Officer for both Ringmer Rovers JFC and Ringmer AFC.

Suzanne Wiles

Co-opted Governor

English Lead Governor

I have played an active role in Ringmer Primary and Nursery School since 2008, initially as a parent, then treasurer of the PTA, a role I enjoyed for 5 years and since 2016 as a Governor, another hugely rewarding role. I am currently a co-opted Governor as my children are now in higher education.

I have been a Manager for a high street bank for over 25 years and I relish bringing my skills and experience in leadership and people management to support, challenge and develop the school team.

In my spare time, you will often find me on the Green in summer playing Stoolball for our village team and in winter, on the side of a Hockey pitch watching one of my family in their sporting endeavour's.

Rob Samms

Co-opted Governor

Health and Safety Lead Governor

Member of Finance and Business Committee

My father was a Governor of my primary school and I have always felt it would be important for me to contribute to the school community.  I head up the Health and Safety oversight for the school, using knowledge and skill acquired from over two decades of experience in the construction industry. I have one daughter at Ringmer Primary and Nursery School

Being on the Board of Governors has been a tremendous experience; we have risen to a number of challenges over the years and I feel proud to support the school delivering the shared vision and meeting the needs of its pupils, staff and parents.  Outside of school I enjoy walking (current health kick), cycling and rugby (watching, not playing!)

Lucy Halls

Parent Governor

Member of Finance and Business Committee

Early Years Lead Governor

Information Governance Lead Governor

My son joined Ringmer Primary and Nursery School in Starfish class in September 2022, and I became a parent governor in February 2023.

I live in Ringmer with my husband and our two children. I’m outnumbered in my house by boys 3:1 so have had to develop interests in football and the Marvel universe so as not to feel completely left out!

I am a Programme Coordinator for the Local Resilience Forum and through my work have developed a keen interest in strategic governance. I’m looking forward to bringing my skill set and enthusiasm to the Board of Governors at Ringmer.

Phil Lucas

Co-opted Lead Governor

Equality and Diversity Lead Governor

Chair of Finance and Business Committee

I joined the Board as a parent governor, and have now become a Co-opted Governor. I have a child in Year 6. I work in the education sector for NAHT the professional association for leaders in education. This gives me access to a lot of information and knowledge that help me be a good critical friend and helping achieve the schools vision. I believe that academic achievement is important but needs to be balanced. I take a holistic view of a school; it is important that school staff as well as our children are happy and encouraged. I want our school to help create well-rounded individuals who can make a success in the world and contribute in a positive way.

My role at NAHT is in recruitment and I have experience of managing budgets and leading teams. Before working for the NAHT I worked for a large not for profit leisure trust. I think this experience has helped me develop skills in management, finance and communication. I enjoy being a part of the governor team and supporting the school staff discharge their responsibilities effectively.

Rachel Riches

Staff Governor

Behaviour and Personal Developement Lead Governor

I am an EYFS practitioner at Ringmer Primary and Nursery School. I started working in the school as a Playground Leader and a Teaching Assistant and in September 2023 took a new role in the Nursery with the younger children.

I became the new staff governor in September 2022.

I have one child at Ringmer Primary and Nursery School, and one that is just starting at Kings Academy and I am a member of the PTA. I also coach football with Ringmer Rovers and I have strong links to the village community due to growing up in Ringmer.

Candice Hall

Parent Governor

SEND and Inclusion Lead Governor

My son started at Ringmer Primary & Nursery School in September 2019 and my daughter will start in September 2023. My husbands family have been in the village for many many years and we love living here in Ringmer.

I am a trained PE Teacher and SENCO, however I am currently working as an Education Advisor. I have worked in Secondary Education in Brighton & Hove since I moved to England 16 years ago.

I am Australian and my home town is Wagga Wagga. In the Wiradjuri language Wagga Wagga means place of many crows.

Adam

RHSE Lead Governor

I joined the Governing Board in May 2023 as a parent Governor. I have two children at the school.

Lawrence

Associate Member

I am privileged to join Ringmer Primary School as an Associate Member.

With local ties to the village and two children I wanted to use my professional experience to assist the school and the board in planning strategic direction, driving performance and, ultimately, helping our pupils achieve.
