Meet the Governors

Anne Franklin

Chair of Governors

Local Authority Governor

Special Educational Needs Lead Governor

Training Lead Governor

Pupil Premium Lead Governor

I was appointed Local Authority Governor in 2014 and have been Chair for the last four years. My association with Ringmer Primary and Nursery School goes back some thirty years when my daughter and son both attended the school and I was Chair of the PTA.

I was delighted to be asked to join the Governing Body when I retired from Headship of a large primary school in Crowborough. My experience in the education world enables me to see the ‘big picture’ from many viewpoints.

Now that I have fully retired I enjoy spending my time with my four grandchildren, playing croquet, bellringing, walking and cycling - I just have to make sure I plan my holidays around Governor meetings!

Danny Mizon

Danny is a police officer working on the Marine Policing Unit in London.

He has been the Safeguarding Link Governor since 2016 and also sits in the same post at Kings Academy Ringmer.

He is a father to two boys who attended Ringmer Primary and Nursery School and now attend Kings Academy Ringmer. He is the Club Welfare Officer for both Ringmer Rovers JFC and Ringmer AFC.

Suzanne Wiles

Co-opted Governor

Human Resources Lead Governor

English Lead Governor

I have played an active role in Ringmer Primary and Nursery School since 2008, initially as a parent, then treasurer of the PTA, a role I enjoyed for 5 years and since 2016 as a Governor, another hugely rewarding role. I am currently a co-opted Governor as my children now attend Kings Academy Ringmer.

I have been a Manager for a high street bank for over 25 years and I relish bringing my skills and experience in leadership and people management to support, challenge and develop the school team.

In my spare time, you will often find me on the Green playing Stoolball or coaching the juniors in summer and in winter being Mum’s Taxis, chauffeuring my children to their numerous sporting fixtures all around the country!

Rob Samms

Co-opted Governor

Health and Safety Lead Governor

Health and Wellbeing Lead Governor

Member of Finance and Business Committee

My father was a Governor of my primary school and I have always felt it would be important for me to contribute to the school community. I head up the Health and Safety oversight for the school, using knowledge and skill acquired from over two decades of experience in the construction industry. I have one daughter at Ringmer Primary and Nursery School

Being on the Board of Governors has been a tremendous experience; we have risen to a number of challenges over the years and I feel proud to support the school delivering the shared vision and meeting the needs of its pupils, staff and parents. Outside of school I enjoy walking (current health kick), cycling and rugby (watching, not playing!)

Mike Fletcher

Information Governance Lead Governor

Data Lead Governor

I have one child at Ringmer Primary and Nursery School and was elected as a parent governor in 2019. In my professional life I work for an IT company as a Database Administrator. In my personal life I am also a trustee at King's Church Lewes.

I am passionate about education and I believe that a strong, healthy relationship between the school and parents is vital. I care about the views of each parent and appreciate the learning needs and challenges facing every pupil. This is what drove my decision to apply for the role as parent governor and these factors continue to motivate me in the role today.

Liam T

Maths Lead Governor

Personal, Social and Health Education Lead Governor

I am the parent of two boys and have been a parent governor since 2019 when my elder son was in Reception, both of my boys are now at the school. I am the link governor for Maths and Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE).

I am a former Detective Sergeant and I worked with Sussex Police for 14 years. In 2019 I decided to take a career break to spend more time with my children before they both started school. I also own an online retail business and have other web based business interests.

In my spare time I enjoy exploring and camping with my boys, swimming and occasionally I force myself to go for a run.

Phil Lucas

Parent Governor

Early Years Lead Governor

Member of Finance and Business Committee

I am a parent governor with a child in Year 5. I work in the education sector for NAHT the professional association for leaders in education. This gives me access to a lot of information and knowledge that help me be a good critical friend and helping achieve the schools vision. I believe that academic achievement is important but needs to be balanced. I take a holistic view of a school; it is important that school staff as well as our children are happy and encouraged. I want our school to help create well-rounded individuals who can make a success in the world and contribute in a positive way.

My role at NAHT is in recruitment and I have experience of managing budgets and leading teams. Before working for the NAHT I worked for a large not for profit leisure trust. I think this experience has helped me develop skills in management, finance and communication. I enjoy being a part of the governor team and supporting the school staff discharge their responsibilities effectively.
