Vision for Art at RPNS

Pablo Picasso once said, “Every child is an artist”.

At Ringmer we want every child, no matter their background or experience, to nurture the artist within them and to recognise that with practice every child has the potential to be a great artist. We promise to provide rich experiences that will challenge and inspire and insure that Art has the precedence it rightly deserves within the curriculum.

We believe that Art plays a fundamental role in each child's development. In Art there are no right or wrong answers. We want to see our children leave Ringmer, recognising the unique contribution they can make to Art and that being an Artist isn’t just about how well you can draw, but how it is a vehicle for self expression, creativity and expertise that can take many forms!

Children will study a range of key artists and their unique approach in working with different media; drawing, painting, textiles and sculpture. We seek to provide a rich and engaging curriculum that provides children with opportunities to explore and develop a range of techniques and processes through a wide range of different materials and media; printing, painting, drawing, textiles and clay. Children will also learn how to critique their own work using specific vocabulary.

We promise to provide the best quality resources and equipment we can to support our Art provision, recognising the vital role this plays in providing children with the tools to harness their skills.

Incorporating the National curriculum, our curriculum promotes the development of progressive skills providing a focus and clear trajectory for each lesson, and where possible this will be linked to the curriculum theme of the term.
