Rucksacks for Calais

posted 11 Sep 2016, 12:53 by Danny Mizon

Parents Sharon Chrismas and Joanna Clarke are supporting this local initiative to reach out to the many unaccompanied children currently living in dangerous and frightening conditions in the ‘Calais Jungle’.

They are asking for donations of rucksacks (in clean and good condition) filled with items that will help the children: a warm hat, gloves and scarf; socks; a pencil case with pens/pencils/stationery; a colouring book or notebook; a cuddly toy; a reading book; a hairbrush or comb; a toothbrush and toothpaste; a note, drawing or card to the child receiving the rucksack.

The hope is that children from in and around Lewes will wish to take part – they could make up their own rucksack gift, or groups of children could do one between them.

The rucksacks need to be ready for Thursday 22nd September. You can arrange to deliver them to Jo Clarke directly, or you can leave them at the school office for collection.
